Scientists have discovered that plants use the hormone abscisic acid (ABA) to pre-program their seeds for environmental conditions, enhancing seed dormancy in response to temperature fluctuations. This mechanism, which mirrors maternal influence in humans, offers new opportunities for developing climate-resilient crops and improving seed quality through hormonal inheritance, highlighting a convergence between plant science and human health research.

The EU has introduced the world's first voluntary standard for permanent carbon removals under the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation. This initiative aims to certify technologies like Direct Air Capture with Carbon Storage, Biogenic Carbon Capture and Storage, and Biochar Carbon Removal, providing clear guidelines to ensure permanence and manage risks. The move is intended to boost investment and innovation in the carbon-removal market, with further methodologies for carbon-farming activities expected by 2026. The EU's strategy includes creating an EU Buyers’ Club to support early-stage projects, aiming to help achieve its 2050 net-zero target and encourage the growth of the agtech sector.
