Almendra Ortiz-Tirado

Almendra Ortiz Tirado is currently the Managing Director of Sistema.bio for Latin America and the Caribbean. A social and environmental activist, she is committed to transforming food systems toward more inclusive, fair, and equitable models. She holds a degree in Sociology with a specialization in Political Sociology and has over 15 years of experience working on issues related to food, rural development, and collaboration with vulnerable communities.

Over the past decade, she has specialized in the recovery and redistribution of food loss and waste, working with the Mexican Food Bank Network and, more recently, as Global Director of Partnerships at The Global FoodBanking Network, an organization with a presence in more than 44 countries.

She has represented Mexico in international forums, such as the APEC High-Level Policy Dialogue on Food Loss and Waste (Taipei, 2018). In 2023, Expansión magazine recognized her as one of Mexico’s “30 Business Promises.”

Throughout her career, she has led projects with the public and private sectors, as well as with multilateral organizations. She currently also serves as a mentor in entrepreneurship and leadership programs for women.
